Once again, the Hungarian Railway Museum is proud to be part of one of the biggest cultural events in Hungary: Night of Museums, held on 20 June! In recent years, our venue has been among the most visited locations – don’t miss this year’s railway-themed experiences either! Start your evening at Europe’s largest interactive railway museum!
Programs and Activities
Throughout the evening, visitors can enjoy a variety of interactive experiences:
- 6:00 PM – 12:00 AM: Free night-time turntable rides
- 6:00 PM – 11:00 PM: Free handcar rides
- 6:00 PM – 1:00 AM: Garden railway rides (ticket required)
- 6:00 PM – 1:00 AM: “Tchaika” railcar rides (ticket required)
- 6:00 PM – 1:00 AM: Diesel locomotive rides (ticket required)
Special Exhibition: “The Buffalo” — The Story of the 424 Steam Locomotive
6:00 PM – 12:00 AM — Discover the legendary Hungarian 424 steam locomotive in our special exhibition located on the first floor of the Main Building.
Light Show: Dance of Lights Among the Locomotives
8:00 PM – 12:00 AM — A spectacular LED light show synchronized to Jean-Michel Jarre’s Orient Express will illuminate the locomotives around the main turntable every hour.
Locomotive Parade
11:00 PM — Unique opportunity to view guest locomotives from several Hungarian and international railway companies on the “B” turntable.
Free shuttle bus V50 to the Railway Museum
Visit the Railway Museum during the Night of Museums with a retro Ikarus buses! The bus will operate as a circular route between the Déli pályaudvar (Southern railway station) and the Railway Museum.
Route:
Vasúttörténeti Park (Railway Museum) – Lehel street/Róbert Károly körút (boulevard) – Nyugati pályaudvar (Western railway station) – Széll Kálmán tér (Széll Kálmán square) – Déli pályaudvar (Southern railway station) – Szent Gellért tér (St.Gellért square) – Mester utca (Mester street) – Népliget – Puskás Ferenc Stadion (Ferenc Puskás Stadium) – Zugló vasútállomás (Zugló railway station) – Vasúttörténeti Park (Railway Museum)
The bus ride is FREE. The bus arrives and departs from the P1 parking lot of the Railway Museum..
The V50 museum bus was created thanks to the BPO569 team, thus making the trip to the Railway History Park during the Night of Museums more comfortable and enjoyable for our visitors.
ATTENTION!!! The special bus service of the V50 bus is not part of the BKV Museums Night MU1 – MU2 – MU3 – MU4 – MU5 – MU6 – MU7 museum bus services!
Night of Museums 2026 wristbands are available at the museum’s main entrance and online at jegymester.hu.
Every ticket purchased at the Hungarian Railway Museum includes a free ride coupon for either the garden railway or a diesel locomotive ride (valid from 6:00 PM to 1:00 AM).
