In 2025, we celebrate 200 years of rail transport. To mark this anniversary, the Hungarian Railway Museum, in cooperation with the Hungarian Museum of Technology and Transport, is opening a special temporary exhibition. The Darlington-Tokyo Express exhibition will be on display from 13 July 2025 on the 3rd floor of the Main Building and will offer a journey through railway history for all ages.

The exhibition is available in both Hungarian and English.

A Journey Through 200 Years

The exhibition offers a unique time-travel experience across 13 themed stations. It begins in 1825 in Darlington, with George Stephenson’s Locomotion No. 1, the first public steam-powered passenger train. From there, visitors follow the evolution of railways over two centuries.

Explore and Discover

Artefacts, photos, documents, films, animations and interactive displays bring railway history to life. A special section invites visitors to share their own railway memories. Because railway history is our shared story that connects us all.

International Highlights

The exhibition also features international items, including a replica of the first Siemens motor, on loan from Deutsche Bahn.
